SAP Follow-Up Program Overview

Once a driver has completed their initial evaluation and treatment with a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), they enter the testing phase. Our program manages this entire process for a predictable monthly fee, ensuring no deadlines are missed.

  • Observed Return-to-Duty (RTD) Test: Before a driver can get back behind the wheel, they must pass an RTD drug and/or alcohol test. Per federal law, this collection must be directly observed by a same-gender collector to ensure the highest level of integrity.

  • 7–10 Random Tests Per Year: While the DOT minimum is 6 tests in the first 12 months, the SAP often recommends more to ensure long-term safety. Our program typically manages between 7 and 10 unannounced, observed tests during the first year to keep the driver fully compliant with the SAP’s specific plan.

  • Multi-Year Tracking: We track the driver’s progress for the full duration of the SAP’s requirements (which can last up to 5 years), providing the employer with regular status updates and documentation for audit purposes.
